Spotlight on Ireland - Clients Top Questions Answered
Nestled right on the edge of Europe, Ireland is filled with vibrant cities, rugged coastlines, and friendly welcomes when visiting its warm pubs and villages.
Here are some of the top questions that our clients have during the Ireland Travel planning process:
What is the best month to visit Ireland?
Peak travel season is June - August/September. The weather is warmest (between 60 - 70 F) and the longest daylight hours are during this time. Because this is peak travel season-many popular attractions and accommodations book fast for this time so book early (8-12 months in advance is ideal). This time of year is great because of Ireland’s vibrant festival scene. The Galway International Arts Festival usually is held in July an and displays an incredible lineup of performers, artists, musicians, and actors. The Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann is a festival held in a different town in Ireland each year and takes place in August usually. Translated it means “Music Festival of Ireland” and is the worlds largest annual celebration of Irish music, language, song and dance.
For pleasant weather with fewer crowds, consider having us plan your trip in late spring (May) or early autumn (September).
How many days should I stay in Ireland?
Ireland may look small on a map, but there is a ton to see! We can make sure that the duration of your stay is in line with your interests & budget.
We suggest that you start with 6-10 days for your first trip to Ireland. You will be able to visit a few different regions such as Dublin, Cork, The Ring of Kerry and the Cliffs of Moher. You may even be able to travel along the Wild Atlantic Way and take in the beauty of Ireland’s west coast. We can cater your trip to your wants!
If you want to explore the country more completely, a longer stay of 11 - 14 days or more may be ideal. You’d be able to visit hidden gems & local favorites this way along with some of the bigger cities & larger tourist attactions.
What is the lowest cost month to visit to Ireland from the United States?
The best time to plan a lower cost trip into Ireland would be during off-season months such as January, February, November, and December. These are the coldest months with the shortest days. Coastal areas are wetter during these months. There are fewer tourists (except around Christmas/New Years)—and some tourist attactions could have shorter hours or be closed.
What do United States Citizens Need to Travel to Ireland?
As of August 2023, you must have a valid passport to enter Ireland with at least 6 months validity. You are able to enter visa-free for tourism or business stays of up to 90 days. In 2024 30 mostly European countries in the Schenegen area will begin to require a visa to enter. These new rules being determined by the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) will require both American and British toursists from once visa-exempt countries to apply for the travel authorization and pay a small fee even when staying for fewer than 90 days. As of now, Ireland is NOT a destination where this authorization will be required when it goes into effect in 2024.
What is the best way to get around in Ireland?
The best way to get around in Ireland is via rental car. Your full United States drivers license allows you to drive in both Northern and Southern Ireland for a visit of up to 12 months! There is a slight learning curve as motorists drive on the left hand side of the road there—practice a bit in a small town before heading to the highways.
If you are a bit apprehensive about driving, exploring via bus is another great option! When traveling around in Ireland without a rental car, careful planning should take place first (with your travel designer).
